Chip Rules!
Jun. 25th, 2030 10:25 pmThe chip has some rules about what Spike can and can't hit... but due to plot convenience, they're bent or broken at various times. However, I've come up with some pretty basic rules for myself as to what registers as "alive" to the chip, and... well, it's still hard to tell sometimes but this sort of simples it up.
1. Is your character alive? If the answer is no, Spike can hit your character. YAY VIOLENCE!
2. Is your character a "real" creature? By this I mean, is your character an animal commonly found on the real, non-fictional planet of Earth? Or is your character some sort of alien or fantastic creature? If the answer to this one is no, Spike can hit your character. The chip forbids him from hitting living things, but it was made by human scientists that... don't consider demons etc to be alive. This can get grey around things like mutants/humans with ~specialness,~ but when in doubt... yeah, we can talk. Again, YAY VIOLENCE!
3. Has your character ever died, and if so, how did they come back to life? This is the REALLY tricky one. Spike can hit Buffy after she comes back from the dead because though she did not come back wrong, she did get the equivalent of a cellular sunburn that confused the chip. Yeah, the writers were pretty much making this up as they go along. So if your character has died and there's potential violence going on... yeah, definite talking needs to happen.
